Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

Backflow testing is an inspection of your backflow prevention device to confirm it's working correctly and preventing contaminated water from flowing backward into the public water supply. In Los Angeles County, most properties with irrigation systems, fire suppression lines, or commercial water connections are required by law to have this test performed annually by a certified tester.

Your local water authority (LADWP, Glendale Water & Power, Burbank Water & Power, Pasadena Water & Power, etc.) is required to notify property owners with backflow prevention assemblies that their annual test is due. You typically have 30 to 60 days from the date of the notice to complete the test and submit the results.

In Los Angeles County, backflow testing is required once per year. Your water authority tracks compliance by property, and if the test is not completed by the deadline, you risk service interruption or fines.

If your device fails, it needs to be repaired or replaced before it can pass a re-test. Simply Backflow carries common replacement parts on every service visit, so most repairs are completed on the same day. After the repair, we re-test the device and submit the updated compliance report to your water authority.

Yes. We submit the test report directly to your water authority on your behalf — whether that's LADWP, Glendale Water & Power, Burbank Water & Power, Pasadena Water & Power, or any other authority in our service area. You don't need to do anything after we leave.

We test all standard backflow prevention assembly types, including Reduced Pressure Zone (RP/RPZ), Double Check (DC), Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB), and Spill Proof Vacuum Breaker(SBV). We service both residential and commercial assemblies of all sizes.

A standard backflow test typically takes 10 to 20 minutes depending on the type of assembly and whether any repairs are needed. If the device passes, we file the report and you're done. If repairs are needed, most are completed the same day.
